Drama In Senate: Natasha’s Victory Challenged Over Unread Court Judgment

In an Abuja statement, Senate Media and Public Affairs Committee Chairman Senator Yemi Adaramodu explained that, although the Senate is aware of the decision, its legal team—which was present in court—reported that the full judgment was never read aloud. As a result, the Senate has formally requested the CTC to conduct a thorough review and determine its next steps under the Constitution.

The Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria notes the judgment delivered on July 4 by the Federal High Court, Abuja, in the suit brought by Sen. Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

However, we have not yet been served with the Certified True Copy of that judgment. Our counsel confirmed that the entire judgment was not read in open court.

We have therefore applied for the CTC to clarify whether the court issued any order suspending Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension.

Until the CTC is received and examined—and on the advice of counsel—the Senate will not take any action that could compromise its legal position,” Adaramodu stated.

He appealed for patience from the public and reaffirmed the Senate’s commitment to due process and the rule of law.
