Human rights lawyer, Festus Ogun, has dragged Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to court for allegedly violating his fundamental rights by blocking him on X (formerly Twitter).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Ogun revealed that the governor blocked him back in 2021 after he openly criticized his administration and demanded accountability over the October 2020 #EndSARS killings.

According to him, being blocked has denied him access to crucial public updates and governance-related information from the governor’s official handle.

In a suit filed before the Federal High Court in Lagos, the lawyer urged the court to declare the governor’s action unconstitutional, arbitrary, and discriminatory. He is also demanding that Sanwo-Olu be compelled to unblock him, issue a public apology, and desist from blocking critics on social media.

Citing a 2019 U.S. ruling where former President Donald Trump was found guilty of infringing on citizens’ rights by blocking them on Twitter, Ogun argued that the same principle should apply in Nigeria.

He described the case as a matter of public interest, stating:

“Intolerance to criticism and accountability is unconstitutional and undemocratic. Nigerian authorities continue to silence critics, journalists, bloggers, and active citizens through arrests, detention, surveillance, collusion with big tech, and outright blocking. That narrative must stop.”
