Drama Unfolds: Nnamdi Kanu’s Courtroom Battle Heads To DSS HQ

The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered that the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), be relocated to the Department of State Services (DSS) headquarters.

Justice James Omotosho issued the directive on Friday, citing the need to inspect a shipping container linked to Kanu as the key reason for the venue change.

According to Daily Post, court documents indicate the container allegedly contains a radio transmitter believed to have been used for broadcasts on Radio Biafra. Authorities allege the equipment was smuggled into Nigeria by Kanu to aid his separatist agenda.

Justice Omotosho explained that, given the security implications and the sensitive nature of the equipment, it is more appropriate to conduct proceedings at the DSS facility where the container is currently held.

Kanu is facing terrorism-related charges tied to his long-standing campaign for the secession of Biafra. The Federal Government accuses him of inciting violence and engaging in acts of subversion through his leadership of IPOB.

He was re-arrested in 2021 after skipping bail in 2017 and has since remained in DSS custody. His trial has faced repeated delays, primarily due to logistical and security concerns.
