DSS Fingers IPOB In High-Profile Killing Linked To Nnamdi Kanu Case

The trial of Nnamdi Kanu, detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), resumed on Wednesday at the Federal High Court in Abuja, with the Department of State Services (DSS) levelling grave allegations against him.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The DSS accused Kanu of orchestrating a wave of violence across the South-East that allegedly resulted in the deaths of between 170 and 200 security personnel.

A masked DSS operative, testifying under the code name PW-DDD, appeared as the fourth prosecution witness in the seven-count charge of terrorism and treasonable felony filed by the Federal Government. Shielded behind a screen for security reasons, the witness claimed Kanu used Radio Biafra broadcasts to incite attacks, specifically ordering his followers to target security personnel.

Led in evidence by prosecution counsel Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), the operative stated:

“Kanu used illegal radio broadcasts to issue directives that led directly to the deaths of numerous officers. He instructed his followers to decisively attack identified targets, including security agents.”

The DSS further linked Kanu to the May 30, 2021, assassination of Ahmed Gulak, a former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, in Owerri, Imo State. The witness recounted that a stay-at-home order issued by Kanu caused widespread unrest that day. He revealed it was his vehicle that transported Gulak’s body.

According to the testimony, Gulak was travelling in a commercial taxi to the airport when they encountered a checkpoint reportedly set up by IPOB members. The men allegedly forced all passengers to identify their ethnicity. While the driver spoke Igbo, Gulak could not—and a visible Muslim prayer mark on his forehead led the assailants to identify him as a target. He was then shot dead.

The DSS witness also testified that Kanu illegally smuggled a radio transmitter into Nigeria and installed it at the home of one Benjamin Madubugu in Ubuluisiuzor, Anambra State. A certified NBC (National Broadcasting Commission) report was presented to the court to confirm this.

In an even more chilling part of the testimony, the witness cited confessions from Uzuoma Benjamin, also known as “Onye Army,” a self-proclaimed commander of the Eastern Security Network (ESN)—IPOB’s armed faction. He claimed Kanu allegedly ordered the late ESN commander, Ikonso, to be buried with 2,000 human heads.

He added that “Onye Army” admitted using the heads of 10 girls to prepare protection charms, and a DSS raid on an ESN camp uncovered human heads and members allegedly consuming human flesh for spiritual empowerment.

The DSS described the ESN as a violent, militant group that attacks traditional leaders and influential figures in the South-East.

Following the gripping testimony, Justice James Omotosho adjourned proceedings until Thursday for continuation of the trial.
