The PDP in Ebonyi has faced significant internal strife, impacting its performance in the 2023 general elections. Following the elections, several party leaders defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Efforts to restore peace faltered when the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) appointed a caretaker committee to oversee state affairs, leading to renewed discord as key members contested the decision and threatened to leave.

In his resignation letter, Usulor pointed to persistent internal crises and factionalization within the party as decisive factors in his departure. He highlighted previous calls for the national leadership to address these issues, which remained unheeded. Usulor criticized the appointment of non-PDP members to the state caretaker committee, a move that deepened discontent among stakeholders.

Consulting with his supporters and well-wishers, Usulor concluded that remaining within the PDP no longer served his or his associates’ political interests. He acknowledged the party’s role in his political career and expressed gratitude to its leaders. Usulor, son of the late Senator Usulor, emphasized that his resignation would enable him to pursue new political avenues aligned with his aspirations and those of his supporters. He plans to announce his future political plans after consultations with family, political allies, and associates.
