Shaibu, addressing his personal aides during a meeting on Saturday morning, emphasized his unwavering commitment and allegiance to Governor Obaseki. He categorically affirmed that he would never betray his principal nor engage in plotting a coup against him.
He asserted that the claims of a coup attempt were the result of attempts by opportunistic elements to widen perceived gaps between him and the governor for their own selfish gains.
Shaibu elaborated, “I believe in the power of collaboration and teamwork. Governor Obaseki and I have diligently collaborated to fulfill the commitments we made to the people of Edo State. Our achievements span education, healthcare, infrastructure, and job creation, all of which reflect the collaborative spirit between our offices.”
As the Deputy Governor, Shaibu asserted that his role is to uphold and complement the governor’s agenda, rather than undermine it.
He expressed dismay at the propagation of baseless allegations, emphasizing that they only serve to divert attention from the administration’s primary focus of serving the people of Edo State.
Remaining steadfast in his democratic convictions, Shaibu reiterated his belief in democratic processes and respect for the mandate entrusted to both Governor Obaseki and himself by the people of Edo State.
He firmly refuted the notion that he would consider orchestrating a coup against a democratically elected government, deeming it not only preposterous but deeply offensive.
Shaibu called upon the media and the public to disregard these allegations and instead focus on matters that genuinely impact the state’s populace.
He emphasized the unity between himself and Governor Obaseki in the pursuit of Edo State’s development and the establishment of good governance.
Concluding, he urged fellow Edo State PDP politicians to embrace unity and peace in order to collectively address the shared challenges faced by the state.
