The Nigeria Police Force has announced the arrest of two political thugs following an overnight operation at multiple locations across Edo State. This information was shared in a press statement by Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Saturday, September 21.
According to Adejobi, police recovered three locally fabricated pistols and one homemade gun from the suspects. This operation is part of ongoing security measures aimed at preventing political violence as elections approach.
He stated, “The Nigeria Police Force has achieved a significant breakthrough in its efforts to combat electoral violence in Edo State with the arrest of two political thugs, Edwin Obanor, 43, and Audu Tajudeen, a 41-year-old member of the Peoples Democratic Party from Ugbogbo quarters, Igara Akoko, Edo.
“Acting on a tip-off about individuals armed to create chaos during the election, police operatives swiftly apprehended Obanor, a leader of an armed group, at Oredo Ward 4 around 9 PM, and Tajudeen in Igara Akoko, Edo, on the eve of the election.
“Upon searching their bags, three cut-to-size locally fabricated pistols were found on Obanor, while one homemade gun was recovered from Tajudeen.
“These arrests underscore the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring a peaceful electoral process. The police and supporting security agencies will not tolerate any form of violence or disorder during the elections in Edo State.”
