Edo Governor-Elect Okpebholo Launches Probe Into Former Governor Obaseki’s Assets
Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has approved the establishment of a 14-member State Assets Verification Committee to examine the assets and liabilities of the previous administration under Governor Godwin Obaseki. A statement from the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Fred Itua, announced that the committee would be inaugurated on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at the Government House in Benin City.
The committee will be led by Dr. Ernest Afolabi Umakhihe as Chairman, with Anslem Ojezua as Deputy Chairman. Other members include Prince Kassim Afegbua, Hon. Patrick Ikhariale, Mr. Taiwo Akerele, Hon. Patrick Idiake, and Hon. Rasaq Bello-Osagie, among others.
According to the statement, the formation of the committee is part of Governor Okpebholo’s initiative to foster development, transparency, and accountability in governance. Despite multiple requests for a comprehensive record of the previous administration’s assets and liabilities, the Obaseki government provided limited information. This committee aims to fill that gap and align with Okpebholo’s promise of probity and transparent leadership.
