The newly formed committee is chaired by Elizabeth Ativie, a former speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly and a controversial House of Representatives candidate in the 2023 general elections.

The committee was inaugurated by the party’s Deputy National Chairman, Dr. Ayo Olorunfemi, at a hotel in Benin City early yesterday.

During the swearing-in ceremony, Dr. Olorunfemi explained that the new leadership was necessary due to the expiration of the Kelly Ogbaloi-led executive council’s tenure in April 2024. He stated that the committee will oversee the party’s activities until a new executive council is elected through a fresh congress.

Dr. Olorunfemi highlighted Mrs. Ativie’s appointment as chairperson, citing her positive and results-oriented track record in her political career. He emphasized the need for unity within the party and expressed confidence that Ativie’s leadership would strengthen the LP in Edo State.

In response, Ativie pledged to elevate the party’s status in the state and work towards reconciling all aggrieved members. She promised to form a reconciliation team to address the ongoing issues within the party.
