Olumide Akpata, the Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate for the September 21, 2024 election, has asserted that he is free from the influence of any political benefactor. He highlighted his commitment to the Labour Party, stating, “I am not answerable to any godfather or political benefactor. This independence is why the Edo people can trust the Labour Party—we are accountable only to the people.”
Akpata contrasted himself with other candidates linked to former or current governors, asserting that he does not owe allegiance to any political godfather. He also clarified that his campaign is self-funded and not supported by Governor Godwin Obaseki, whose preferred candidate is PDP’s Ighodalo.
Addressing earlier rumors, Akpata said, “There were claims that I was an agent of Governor Obaseki or sponsored by the APC. These are baseless conspiracy theories. I am funding my campaign myself, supported by friends who believe in our vision for a better Edo.
