In a statement released in Benin and signed by Imade Osagie, the HRHA expressed disappointment that Governor Obaseki had chosen to publicly humiliate his deputy, Philip Shaibu, despite the latter’s support during their political battles, including leaving the camp of Adams Oshiomhole to align with Obaseki.

The statement read, “We strongly condemn the eviction of Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, from the Government House.

It is not only deeply concerning but also appears vindictive, a trait that sadly seems to define Governor Obaseki’s approach.

“We call on Governor Obaseki to refrain from diminishing the role of a deputy governor to that of a ‘spare tire’ outside his office. Such behavior is utterly unacceptable.

“Why does Governor Obaseki treat those who assisted him in his political journey with such unkindness? Both of them assumed office on a joint ticket, making it unconstitutional for the governor to relocate the deputy’s office.

“Shaibu should be accorded the rights and the dignity befitting his office. The people of Edo State deserve better than the undignified spectacle that is currently unfolding.”

The statement further noted, “It is regrettable that a governor, whose achievements have been relatively modest, is expending energy on conflicts with his deputy rather than wholeheartedly dedicating himself to delivering good governance to the electorate.”
