Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Comr. Philip Shaibu, has finalized his decision to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), effectively ending speculations surrounding his political affiliation amidst the ongoing political turbulence between him and the State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki.

Shaibu’s decision to align with the APC, which had been anticipated by political analysts, follows his legal move to the Federal High Court seeking an injunction to counter an alleged impeachment plan against him.

Governor Obaseki responded to Shaibu’s court action by suggesting that the move is pre-emptive and linked to his forthcoming defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to the insider, “The confirmation is now official. We have reliable information that Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Philip Shaibu, has concluded his plans to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“He and a group of his supporters are set to officially join the party next week, under the supervision of the National Working Committee. Shaibu’s communication with both state and national party leadership has been ongoing even before his public disagreement with the governor. His re-entry into the party has been in negotiation.

“The deputy governor has now solidified his decision to switch parties, and we are prepared and enthusiastic to welcome him into our ranks.”

Obaseki, addressing leaders from Edo North Senatorial District, where Shaibu hails from, expressed his lack of awareness regarding any plot to impeach the deputy governor.

He characterized Shaibu’s court action as surprising and disappointing, suggesting that it could be a preemptive maneuver to secure his candidacy and transition to another political party.
