On Thursday morning, Naija News found that the EFCC’s X account was temporarily inaccessible, fueling further speculation. Despite this, the EFCC’s website and other social media accounts, including Facebook and Instagram, remained fully operational.

In an interview with The Punch, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale clarified that the account’s downtime was due to a routine update, not a hack. He assured that the account would be back online soon.

Meanwhile, Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) has dismissed reports of its website being hijacked by hackers. On Wednesday night, Naija News observed that the GTBank website, gtbank.com, was inaccessible. This issue came shortly after the domain was renewed, extending its validity through March 2029, according to domain tracking platforms.

No hacker group has claimed responsibility for the alleged attack, and cybersecurity experts suggest that a fraudulent version of the website might have been created to phish for customers’ information. Despite the website disruption, GTBank’s mobile apps on Android and iOS remained functional.

A senior GTBank executive, speaking anonymously to Daily Post, attributed the issue to a connectivity problem, not a hacking incident.
