EFCC Strikes Big: ₦364bn, $326m Recovered, Over 4,000 Convictions In Crackdown

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has released a detailed account of its anti-corruption activities between 2023 and 2024, highlighting massive recoveries and thousands of convictions.

In a statement, the Commission disclosed that it recovered ₦364.5 billion and $326.5 million within the period, while also overseeing the disbursement of key government intervention funds. These include the PL-CNG scheme, NG-CARES, NACA Global Fund, SESET, AMCON loans, and various Central Bank of Nigeria facilities such as COVID-19 relief packages and conversion loans.

According to the report, the EFCC received 15,724 petitions during the one-year review, out of which 12,928 were investigated. From these, 5,081 cases were filed in court, resulting in 4,171 convictions, while 2,348 cases are still ongoing.

The Commission stressed that the recoveries and convictions were achieved strictly through due process and under court supervision, which it said has further strengthened public trust in its operations.

“These figures are not mere statistics; they represent deterrence, restitution, and a strong message that corruption will not be tolerated. Our mandate extends beyond internet fraud—we are safeguarding national assets and ensuring that intervention funds get to the people they are meant for,” an EFCC source stated.
