Eguavoen Names 28 Super Falcons Stars for Crucial 2028 Olympic Qualifiers Against Comoros

Super Falcons interim head coach Augustine Eguavoen has announced a 28-player squad for Nigeria’s second-round qualifying fixtures against Comoros in the race for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.

Captain Rasheedat Ajibade leads the squad alongside several established stars, including goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, forwards Asisat Oshoala and Gift Monday, defender Michelle Alozie, and midfielders Christy Ucheibe, Toni Payne and Jennifer Echegini.

Defender Ashleigh Plumptre also returns to the national team setup after missing the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations due to injury. Eguavoen has also handed opportunities to several emerging players, including Christiana Uzoma, Farida Abdulwahab, Tumininu Adeshina, Favour Nkwocha, Shakirat Moshood, Oluwakemi Adegbuyi and Janet Akekoromowei.

The invited players are expected to report to camp ahead of the two-legged encounter with Comoros. Both matches will be played at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo on October 9 and October 13, 2026, respectively. The fixtures are being staged in Nigeria after Comoros failed to provide a CAF-approved venue for the tie.

Nigeria received a bye into the second round as one of the three highest-ranked teams in the qualifying competition, while Comoros progressed after defeating Sudan 30-0 on aggregate.

The Super Falcons will need to progress through four rounds of two-legged knockout fixtures to secure one of Africa’s two available places at the 2028 Olympic Games. Should Nigeria advance past Comoros, the team will face either the Democratic Republic of Congo or Morocco in the next round.

The full 28-player squad consists of goalkeepers Chiamaka Nnadozie, Comfort Erhabor and Christiana Uzoma; defenders Michelle Alozie, Shukurat Oladipo, Farida Abdulwahab, Glory Ogbonna, Oluwatosin Demehin, Glory Edet, Ashleigh Plumptre and Tumininu Adeshina; midfielders Christy Ucheibe, Joy Igbokwe, Favour Nkwocha, Fatimoh Solaty, Suliat Abideen, Toni Payne and Jennifer Echegini; and forwards Rasheedat Ajibade, Asisat Oshoala, Flourish Sabastine, Shakirat Moshood, Gift Monday, Joy Omewa, Blessing Nkor, Oluwakemi Adegbuyi, Janet Akekoromowei and Uchenna Kanu.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the October double-header marks Eguavoen’s first assignment as interim coach of the Super Falcons as Nigeria begins its campaign for a place at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. The Nigeria Football Federation appointed him to the role on an interim basis while its search for a substantive head coach continues.
