This follows the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority’s (NCAA) approval of non-scheduled flight operations at the airport for six months. The calibration aircraft carrying NAMA officials landed on the airport runway at 4:13 p.m. on Friday, immediately initiating the process.
Calibration in the aviation industry involves ensuring air navigation safety by inspecting and fine-tuning test equipment and airspace systems. This critical step aligns the facility with global aviation standards for safe and efficient operations.
Key state officials present at the airport included the Technical Adviser to the Governor on Airport Project, AVM Sunday Makinde (Rtd), Commissioner for Information Rt. Hon. Taiwo Olatunbosun, Commissioner for Environment Mrs. Tosin Aluko-Ajisafe, Commissioner for Transport Hon. Kolawole Ajobiewe, and Special Adviser on Media and Strategy Mr. Yinka Oyebode, among others.
Speaking to journalists, AVM Makinde (Rtd) described the calibration exercise as a significant milestone toward final approval for commercial operations. He explained that the process involved assessing and optimizing navigational aids, such as instrument landing systems, communication radios, and other essential equipment required for safe operations.
Expressing optimism, Makinde assured that the airport is fully equipped to accommodate all types of aircraft, emphasizing that the calibration exercise validates the readiness of the airport’s navigational systems to support seamless operations.
“This calibration aircraft from NAMA is here to verify the effectiveness of our navigational and communication systems. The Ekiti Agro Cargo International Airport is fully ready for commercial operations,” he stated confidently.
Commissioner for Information Chief Taiwo Olatunbosun hailed the development as a major achievement, noting that the airport’s readiness has been confirmed through inspections by regulatory aviation agencies. He described the project as a “dream come true” for Ekiti State, highlighting its potential to attract investments, boost tourism, and drive economic growth.
“The completion of this airport is a testament to Governor Oyebanji’s commitment to transforming the state’s economy and positioning it as a hub for local and international connectivity,” Olatunbosun added.
The NAMA team is scheduled to conclude its operations and depart the airport on Saturday.
