Ekiti Government Takes Legal Action: Sues Chef Dammy’s Pastor, Seeks N10 Million in Damages....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a recent development, the Directorate of Citizens Rights (DCR) from the Ministry of Justice in Ekiti State has initiated legal proceedings on behalf of renowned chef Damilola Adeparusi, popularly known as Chef Dammy. The lawsuit is directed against Pastor Jeremiah Adegoke and the Ekiti State Police Command, alleging a violation of the chef’s rights.

Chef Dammy, who gained prominence for her ambitious attempt to break the Guinness World Record in a cook-a-thon challenge earlier this year, is now at the center of a legal dispute involving her once-supportive pastor.

The controversy began in October when the 24-year-old chef raised concerns about alleged threats and intimidation from individuals she referred to as “people of God” and her pastor, Jeremiah Adegoke. The dispute appears to have stemmed from the fallout of Chef Dammy’s unsuccessful attempt to break Hilda Baci’s cook-a-thon record, a venture reportedly sponsored by Pastor Adegoke.

Last week, Chef Dammy was invited by the police following a petition filed against her by Pastor Adegoke. The exact nature of the conflict between the chef and her pastor remains unclear.

In response to Chef Dammy’s public outcry, Pastor Adegoke, through his legal representatives, Bisayo Sule & Co legal practitioners, issued a letter on October 23, 2023. The letter demanded a retraction of the alleged defamatory statement made on social media, an apology published in two widely read national dailies, and payment of N22 million for damages. Chef Dammy was given seven days to comply with these demands under the threat of legal action.

In a countermove, the DCR filed a lawsuit on November 24 on behalf of Chef Dammy. The suit lists Chef Dammy as the applicant and names Pastor Jeremiah Adegoke, Ajewole Samuel (the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police), and the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 17 Akure, as respondents.

The lawsuit seeks a declaration that the alleged harassment, molestation, threats of arrest, and intimidation by both the pastor and the Nigerian police infringe upon Chef Dammy’s fundamental human rights. Additionally, the DCR is seeking compensation of N10 million on behalf of Chef Dammy for damages suffered.

As this legal battle unfolds, it adds another layer of complexity to the already intriguing saga surrounding Chef Dammy and her pastor, highlighting the intersection of personal and legal challenges in the public eye.
