Ekiti Police Arrest Six After Uncovering Body Of Former University DVC

Prof. Olaofe was kidnapped along with his security guard from his residence in Federal Housing Estate, Ado Ekiti, on July 9, 2024. His body was discovered in a shallow grave along Airport Road, Afao Ekiti, on July 31.

According to a statement from Police Public Relations Officer Sunday Abutu, the body was exhumed and taken to the morgue.

Akinwale detailed that armed men had seized Prof. Olaofe and his guard, Abdul Opotu, using the professor’s Toyota Camry. Despite efforts by the Rapid Response Squad, the victims were taken before the police could intervene. The vehicle was later recovered.

The investigation led to the arrest of Omowaye Ayodele at a guesthouse in Akure, Ondo State. Ayodele confessed to the crime and named accomplices Kenneth, Amodu Gbenga, Nnamani Chukwuka, and Ojо. He revealed that Opotu had facilitated the kidnapping.

Further investigation identified the shallow grave where Olaofe was buried. With an order from the Magistrate Court and assistance from the Ministry of Environment, the body was exhumed and confirmed as Olaofe’s.

The suspects are currently in custody as the police continue their search for the remaining gang members and the missing security guard.
