El-Rufai Breaks Silence: I’m Not Eyeing Any Ministerial Appointment Nigerians React

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has declared that serving as a minister under President Bola Tinubu was never part of his ambition.

Speaking in an interview with Channels Television on Sunday, El-Rufai revealed that even if he had been appointed, he would not have remained in the cabinet.

“I would have probably resigned if I was a minister in Tinubu’s government. I have no desire to be a minister. I don’t care what people are saying now. I have been a minister when I was much younger,” he stated.

He disclosed that President Tinubu personally appealed to him to accept a ministerial role, but he declined.

It will be recalled that El-Rufai was at one point nominated as Minister of Power but reportedly failed to scale through security clearance.

Meanwhile, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Kaduna State has rejected claims by El-Rufai that its structure in the state had collapsed.

Over the weekend, El-Rufai and some opposition figures announced that the SDP in Kaduna had been dissolved into the African Democratic Congress (ADC) following a strategic meeting.

However, in a statement signed by its State Chairman, Adamu Idris, the SDP insisted that its structures remain intact and that the party is focused on strengthening its role as a credible opposition.

The party further accused El-Rufai of attempting to create division, recalling that his brief involvement with the SDP was marked by internal crises. It stressed that peace and stability had since been restored after his exit.
