Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has dismissed speculations about his defection to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stating that he has no plans to join the opposition party.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

However, he hinted that he might explore other political options if the All Progressives Congress (APC) fails to realign with its founding principles.

Speaking on Arise TV on Monday, El-Rufai rejected claims that his meetings with politicians from different parties signaled his departure from the APC. He clarified that his interactions with political figures were being misinterpreted, emphasizing that engaging with friends in other parties does not mean he is switching allegiance.

“It should be clear that being in APC doesn’t mean I cannot visit a friend in PDP or SDP. Anytime I do, people speculate that I’m leaving the party. In fact, about two months ago, someone falsely claimed I had collected a PDP membership card in my ward,” he said.

El-Rufai also dismissed rumors of joining the Social Democratic Party (SDP) following his visit to the party’s national headquarters. “When I visited my brother and friend Shehu Gabam at the SDP headquarters, they said I had joined SDP. Again, not true,” he stated.

Despite ongoing speculation, El-Rufai firmly ruled out joining the PDP, declaring that it is not an option for him. However, he suggested that his continued membership in the APC depends on the party’s ability to address its internal challenges.

“I don’t know where I will end up if APC doesn’t return to its founding principles. But one thing I can tell you for sure is that PDP is not an option for me. I ruled that out long ago, and nothing has changed. If anything, PDP has only gotten worse,” he asserted.

On Recent Meeting With PDP Leaders in Kaduna

El-Rufai also responded to reports about his recent meeting with PDP leaders in Kaduna, which fueled further speculation about his political future.

“The state leadership of PDP in Kaduna came to see me, and I met with them. I am a public figure in my state, and at my age and experience, I am a leader of some sort. Meeting with political figures does not mean I am switching parties,” he clarified.
