El-Rufai Denies Backing Southern Presidency In 2027, Sparks Speculation
Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has denied claims that he declared it is the South’s turn to produce Nigeria’s president in 2027.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
An online publication had quoted him via a post by ADC News (@AdcNews_) as saying, “I refused to contest in 2027 because it is the turn of the South. You will see me in action come 2031.”
However, El-Rufai, in a statement on Monday, dismissed the report as fake news, insisting that he never indicated any particular region should produce the president in 2027.
The former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) clarified that the statement attributed to him was never made in any interview or on social media.
“My attention has been drawn to a trending fake news item alleging that I specified which region of the country should produce the president in 2027,” El-Rufai said.
“This claim is false, despite its widespread circulation. I did not make such a statement in any of my speeches, interviews, or social media posts. I communicate my views only through my verified social media platforms or interviews with reputable media outlets.
“I also wish to emphasise that no opinions should be attributed to me unless explicitly expressed through my verified channels. It is also misleading to associate opinion articles from other authors that I may share with my personal stance. These clarifications are essential as we confront both irresponsible politicking and the deliberate misuse of social media to spread false information.”
