El-Rufai Raises Allegations Against ICPC Over Political Interference.
The former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has accused officials of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) of attempting to prevent him from engaging in political activities.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
He made the allegation in a 30-page criminal complaint filed in court against the ICPC Chairman, Musa Adamu Aliyu, and four other officials of the anti-corruption agency.
In the document, El-Rufai claimed that during his detention, officers of the commission told him he would only be released if he agreed to stop participating in politics.
According to Paragraph 12 of the complaint, he alleged that the officers, acting under the authority of the ICPC chairman, made his freedom conditional upon abandoning all political involvement.
El-Rufai argued that such a condition violated his constitutional rights and amounted to an attempt to force him out of lawful political participation.
The allegations were also expanded upon in the supporting affidavit, particularly in Paragraphs 22 to 24. His legal team stated that he was repeatedly informed that continuing his political activities could extend his detention, and that only a promise to withdraw from politics would secure his release.
This claim serves as the foundation for Count Six of the complaint, which accuses the officials of wrongful confinement with intent to compel, an offence referenced under Sections 264 and 267 of the Penal Code.
El-Rufai has urged the court to investigate the conduct of the ICPC officials, describing the alleged actions as an abuse of power and an unlawful effort to limit his participation in the political process.
