Emefiele, attired in blue Guinea Brocade babaringa with a matching Hausa cap, appeared for arraignment as ordered by the court, accompanied by his lead counsel, Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Mathew Burkaa.
Accused of providing corrupt benefits to a CBN staff member, Mrs. Saadat Ramalan Yaro, through the awarding of various contracts, Emefiele denied the six-count charges.
The prosecution, led by Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Rotimi Oyedepo, represented the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in the legal proceedings.
As of the latest update, a vigorous legal dispute was in progress regarding the plea for Emefiele’s bail pending trial. Justice Hamza Muazu is anticipated to deliver a ruling on the bail application.
