In the midst of escalating economic hardships and widespread hunger across the nation, Aisha Yesufu, a vocal social critic and advocate for human rights, has expressed her expectation regarding the deployment of clerics by politicians to sow confusion among Nigerians.
Yesufu’s remarks were prompted by a statement attributed to Reverend Joshua Talena, a prominent Abuja cleric and Senior Pastor of the Shepherd House Assembly International. During a Sunday service in Abuja, Talena underscored the current global turmoil as indicative of the impending end times, as prophesied in scriptures. He emphasized the foretelling of widespread unrest, wickedness, hunger, and other societal ills in the final days, using the insecurity prevalent in certain regions of Nigeria as a poignant example. Talena urged his congregation to maintain hope amidst these turbulent times.
In response, Yesufu conveyed her foresight regarding the utilization of clerics by political figures, asserting, “I knew they would soon deploy the clerics!” She referenced a prophetic tradition, recalling the indication that one of the signs of the last days would be such abundance that discerning rightful recipients of Zakat would pose a challenge.
Yesufu’s commentary sheds light on the intersection of politics and religion in Nigeria’s sociopolitical landscape, highlighting concerns about manipulation and exploitation for vested interests.
