The Enugu State government has expressed its commitment to assist the Nigerian Navy in establishing a naval operational base, hospital, and welfare school within the state.

The assurance was given by Governor Dr. Peter Mbah during a meeting with members of the Naval Committee responsible for establishing the Naval Base at Ogurugu Inland Water.

Rear Admiral Chijioke Onyemaobi led the committee, and the gathering took place at the Enugu Government House over the weekend. The governor expressed his appreciation to the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, for translating words into action by forming the committee and ensuring that work would commence soon.

He emphasized that the establishment of the proposed facilities would bring significant benefits and strategic value to the state.

Governor Mbah also reflected on the key events that unfolded shortly after taking his oath of office, including the convening of a security council meeting to address the state’s security concerns.

He underscored that the policies and programs of his administration are centered around achieving peace and security to facilitate the desired economic growth.

Highlighting the security achievements of the government in the past three months, which have made the state safe for investment, tourism, and residency, the governor reiterated his determination to build upon the security progress made during his administration.

While commending the Nigerian Navy’s proposed projects in the state, Governor Mbah emphasized that the naval operational base, naval hospital, and naval welfare school would restore the state’s historical significance as the former headquarters of the southern region of Nigeria.

He further pledged unwavering support for these projects, as they are vital to ensuring the safety of lives and property for the people of the state.
