Enugu Youths Abandon Plans To Join Nationwide Protest

At a press conference in Enugu on Friday, the group, which represents members from all 17 local government areas of the state, affirmed its commitment to peace and stability. Jude Aniagu, the group’s Publicity Secretary, acknowledged the country’s dire economic situation but highlighted the positive strides made in Enugu under Governor Peter Mbah’s administration.

While understanding the motivations behind the Nationwide Hunger Protest, the group expressed concerns that the demonstration could be exploited by individuals seeking to cause harm and disrupt peace. They emphasized the progress and stability achieved in Enugu and urged youths to avoid actions that could lead to anarchy and damage the state’s infrastructure.

“We recognize the risk of the protest being hijacked by individuals with malicious intentions. Our priority is to maintain the peace and beauty of Enugu, which has seen significant improvements under Governor Mbah’s leadership,” Aniagu said.

The group also appealed to both the Federal and State Governments to engage with Enugu youths to address unemployment and poverty. They commended the state government’s initiatives for job creation and youth development through programs in Information Technology and Entrepreneurship.

“We must not jeopardize our future by participating in a protest that could undermine the progress we have made. Instead, we should focus on benefiting from the development programs being implemented in our state,” the statement concluded.
