Esosa Iyawe Backs Landmark Digital Economy Bill At Joint Public Hearing

Nigeria’s digital transformation drive recorded a major boost yesterday as Hon. Engr. Esosa Iyawe, Member representing Oredo Federal Constituency, played a frontline role at the Joint Public Hearing on the National Digital Economy and E-Governance Bill 2025.

Hon. Iyawe joined key legislative leaders including the Deputy Senate Minority Leader, Senator Lere Oyewumi, and the Chairman of the House Committee on Digital and Information Technology, Hon. Stanley Olajide, as stakeholders across the tech ecosystem presented inputs on the far-reaching Bill.

Speaking on the significance of the proposed legislation, Hon. Iyawe described the Bill as a pillar of Nigeria’s future economy, stressing that a resilient digital framework will expand opportunities, enhance governance efficiency, and accelerate Nigeria’s ambition of building a $1 trillion economy.

He noted that the digital economy is now central to job creation, service delivery, and global competitiveness, and emphasized the National Assembly’s commitment to crafting laws that strengthen innovation, cybersecurity, and e-governance.

The hearing marks a critical step in refining the Bill before its passage, with Hon. Iyawe reiterating that Nigeria cannot afford to lag behind in a world driven by technology and data.
