Tensions between Suswam and his successor, Samuel Ortom, have escalated since the party’s congresses, with both leaders vying for control over the party’s structure in the state. This rivalry has resulted in a series of suspensions and counter-suspensions among party leaders, leading the PDP’s National Working Committee to establish a caretaker committee to manage the party’s affairs in Benue.
Recently, this caretaker committee convened a peace meeting with party leaders, agreeing to put aside their differences for the party’s advancement. However, on Monday, the committee members were reportedly evicted from the secretariat. In response to this situation, Ortom has provided temporary accommodation for the party at one of his office complexes in Makurdi.
Ortom, via his media aide Terver Akase, accused Suswam of sealing off the secretariat early Monday morning, preventing the caretaker committee from accessing the office. Akase stated, “It’s the former governor who owns that building. He sealed it off this morning.”
In contrast, Suswam’s media aide, Bede Batholomew, denied the allegations, asserting that the secretariat was not sealed off and challenged anyone making such claims to provide evidence. He emphasized, “They did not evict them; the party is not even a tenant as the building was only donated to the party.”
