Ex-Gov Bello’s Alleged N80.2bn Fraud Arraignment Postponed To June 27 By Court

Pinhero had informed defense lawyers in advance of his inability to attend court, prompting the parties to agree to reschedule the arraignment. Despite this, another senior prosecutor, Mr. Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, appeared in court on behalf of the EFCC, expressing readiness to proceed with the case.

In response, Mr. Adeola Adedipe, SAN, representing Bello, reminded the court of the earlier agreement for adjournment at the prosecution’s request. He cited Section 266 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015, emphasizing that the defendant’s presence was not mandatory for fixing a new date.

Following arguments from both sides, Justice Emeka Nwite granted the adjournment to a later date.

Yahaya Bello faces charges related to alleged money laundering, breach of trust, and misappropriation of public funds amounting to approximately N80.2 billion during his tenure as Kogi State governor.
