The renowned former Vice President for the World Bank attributed her statement to the apparent discrepancies in the judgments of the Nigeria’s Appeal Court, notably in the governorship election cases. She specifically mentioned the judgment on the Kano State election, where the appellate court affirmed the decision of the Petition Tribunal sacking Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

In her post, Oby Ezekwesili expressed her concern about the erosion of democracy and the alleged corruption of the judiciary by politicians. She reminded Senator Akpabio and others about the vulnerability of empires and cautioned against the unsustainable nature of hubris.

Furthermore, she commended opposition party voices, mentioning Senators such as @SenatorNwoye and @ireti_kingibe, urging them to raise their collective voice on issues affecting the citizens. Oby called on lawmakers to fulfill their duty as representatives of the people and lead the way out of what she referred to as the “Monopoly Democracy” characterized by political class rascality.

Reactions to Oby’s post have been mixed, with some supporting her critique of the judiciary and others questioning the timing and political context of her statements.
