Ex-PDP Legal Adviser Speaks Out Against Leadership Amid Internal TurmoilFormer National Legal Adviser of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mark Jacob, has expressed cautious optimism regarding the involvement of the party’s governors in addressing its ongoing internal crisis, while also raising concerns about unresolved key issues.

Naija News reports that the PDP Governors Forum intervened in the situation on Tuesday, with Chairman Governor Bala Mohammed announcing that the crisis has been resolved and all suspensions have been nullified.

In an interview on Aries Television’s “NewsNight,” Jacob acknowledged the governors’ positive actions but highlighted that deeper challenges, such as the extended tenure of Acting National Chairman Ambassador Umar Damagum, remain unaddressed. “Yes, the governors have stepped in, but the core issues are still lingering. The party is controlled by different factions,” he stated, emphasizing the need for a more thorough resolution.

Jacob criticized those who ignore the party’s constitution, claiming their actions undermine the PDP’s stability. “It’s unfortunate that those neglecting the party’s constitutional framework are contributing to its decline,” he said.

He also expressed concern over the PDP’s failure to fulfill its role as the country’s main opposition party, suggesting that funding should be sourced from grassroots membership. “Members should contribute by paying their dues, ensuring that no single individual can dominate or control the party,” Jacob added.

Meanwhile, the National Working Committee (NWC), led by Yayari Mohammed, has not commented on the outcomes of the governors’ peace efforts. Attempts to reach both Yayari Mohammed and National Publicity Secretary Hon. Debo Ologunagba were unsuccessful, as their phone lines were unreachable and there were no responses to text messages as of 9:00 p.m. last night.
