Ex-Police Boss Shakes Nasarawa Politics: IGP Announces Governorship Run Under APC Banner

Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, a former Inspector-General of Police, has formally declared his ambition to contest the Nasarawa State governorship in the 2027 general elections under the banner of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Adamu, who served as Nigeria’s IGP from 2019 to 2021 during the Muhammadu Buhari administration, made his intentions known during a meeting with members of the APC State Working Committee in Lafia.

He explained that his decision was driven by a “clarion call” from the people of Nasarawa, who, he said, have shown confidence in his leadership skills and experience.

“I am responding to the call of my people who believe in my ability to lead and advance Nasarawa State. If given the opportunity, my administration will be inclusive, transparent, and committed to delivering real development across all sectors,” Adamu assured.

His entry into the race adds weight to the growing list of aspirants aiming for the governorship in 2027. The current governor, Abdullahi Sule, is serving his second term under the APC.
