Egoh expressed concern that the protest might be hijacked by individuals with harmful intentions, potentially leading to further violence and loss of life. He emphasized that while citizens have the right to express dissent, it is crucial for protest organizers to find peaceful alternatives to address national issues.
The former lawmaker, who served two terms representing Amuwo-Odofin in the National Assembly, highlighted the severe consequences of past protests, including the destruction of businesses and properties, particularly affecting shops owned by Igbos and other groups. He noted that more than 200 BRT buses were destroyed, impacting ordinary citizens the most.
Egoh advised Nigerians to stay indoors during the protest and urged parents to keep their children at home. He expressed confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to improving the nation, acknowledging that a single year is insufficient to resolve all existing challenges.
He also addressed the food crisis exacerbated by attacks on agricultural lands, flooding, and climate change. Egoh called for extensive mechanized farming and a reduction in import duties on food products to improve affordability.
