The delegation, led by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, who is also the Chairman of the All Progressives Governors Forum, held a private meeting with the former president. After the meeting, Uzodimma told journalists that the visit was to check on Buhari’s well-being, referring to him as the “father of the APC.”

He emphasized that the visit was a reaffirmation of the APC’s unity and strength, despite recent defections within the party. Uzodimma also acknowledged Buhari’s pivotal role in the formation and growth of the APC, calling the meeting a symbolic demonstration of the party’s continued support for the former president.

This visit comes amid a growing number of defections, including former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s departure from the APC to join the Social Democratic Party (SDP), along with other former ministers from Buhari’s administration. Some APC members from Buhari’s home state of Katsina have also joined the SDP, raising concerns about the party’s cohesion.

Despite these defections, Uzodimma insisted that the visit to Buhari was a powerful signal of the APC’s unity. He noted the visit was especially significant after the conclusion of Ramadan, Lent, and Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.

“We came to visit former President Muhammadu Buhari, the only former President produced by the APC. We found him in good health, and he expressed surprise and pleasure at our visit. He is pleased with the party and all of us, his political children,” Uzodimma said.

He further assured that the APC remains strong, citing its status as the largest party in Africa with 21 governors.

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani also commended Buhari for his continued support for both the APC and President Bola Tinubu, adding that the visit was a demonstration of gratitude for Buhari’s ongoing backing of the party and the current administration.
