The National Agency for Food and Drug Control (NAFDAC) has exposed a fraudulent bottled water enterprise in Port Harcourt, focusing on the well-known brand Eva water.
Following a tipoff, authorities conducted a raid on a rundown establishment located on Pipe Line Road, Eneka. The premises, disguised as a pool house, concealed the production of counterfeit water. Upon inspection, officials uncovered a disturbing process: used plastic bottles from a reputable water brand were being reused, filled with tainted water sourced from a paint bucket. This water was then filtered through a soiled rubber funnel covered with cloth. Subsequently, counterfeit Eva labels were affixed to the bottles, and fake Eva corks were used for sealing. During the operation, one suspect, identified as Chibunna James, was apprehended while in the process of loading the adulterated water for distribution. However, the mastermind behind the operation remains at large.
All seized products were confiscated and transported to the NAFDAC office for further scrutiny and investigation.
