Experience Before Opinion!” – Yvonne Jegede Slams Femi Lazarus Over Menstruation Remarks
Nollywood actress Yvonne Jegede has criticized a remark made by Femi Lazarus, lead pastor of Light Nation Church in Abuja, regarding women’s menstrual cycles.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The controversy erupted after a clip from one of Lazarus’ sermons surfaced online, in which he claimed that women’s mood swings during menstruation are caused by attitude rather than biology.
“You are not the first woman to see your period, so your menstruation is not the problem. I have never seen anywhere in the Bible any woman complain about menstrual pain. You are simply not a peaceful person,” he stated.
The comment sparked widespread backlash on social media, with many accusing the pastor of being insensitive to women’s experiences.
Responding on Instagram on Wednesday, Yvonne Jegede condemned the statement and urged men to refrain from commenting on experiences they haven’t personally undergone.
She wrote, “Yesterday I saw a trending video of a clergyman seemingly trivializing menstrual pain. If you’ve never experienced the hormonal changes that women go through during their periods, ovulation, and pregnancy, please don’t make bold statements about things you haven’t experienced. Men, please be kind.”
While many supported Yvonne’s stance, some defended Pastor Lazarus, arguing that his words were taken out of context.
Instagram user Angie Joseph commented, “He wasn’t trivializing menstrual pain. Kindly listen to the sermon to understand his context. My cramps are so bad that sometimes I end up in the hospital, but that doesn’t make me a mannerless person.”
