Bystanders intervened, disarming Daniel and holding him down until authorities arrived. Daniel, who claimed to earn a living from cybercrime, explained that he had built a three-bedroom bungalow with the proceeds, and had promised to open a store for his mother once he achieved a breakthrough.
However, he accused his mother and elder brother of conniving to defraud him of ₦2.5 million, despite his promise to establish a store for her. Daniel admitted to purposefully luring his mother from a church program and attacking her with a knife, asserting that he also assaulted his father to prevent them from harming him.
Daniel claimed he targeted his parents because they gave him a false name, rendering ineffective a magic black soap obtained from a white garment church priest. The soap, intended for good fortune, required his mother’s real name to be effective, but when he called the name into it, it failed, leading to his anger and violent actions.
However, Titilayo denied accepting any money from Daniel, stating that she was called to pick him up from school due to his mental health issues. She mentioned that when he woke up after taking native medicine provided by his father, he demanded his phone, accusing her of taking it, and physically assaulted her.
Daniel’s father, in turn, accused his wife of being aware of their son’s involvement in cybercrime and the construction of a house with the illicit funds. He claimed she knew about it but did not inform him.
