Two men, Ugwu Chijioke and Ibrahim Adekunle, have been sentenced to a combined 46 years in jail by the Special Offences Court in Ikeja, Lagos State. They were convicted for impersonating Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) officials and executing a fraudulent court order. The EFCC, in a statement on Sunday via Facebook, reported their arrest in May 2021 at New Horizon Estate, Lekki, Lagos, following credible intelligence. The duo was found with fake EFCC identity cards, jackets, and a forged court order from Mushin Magistrate Court.
They were charged on October 12, 2021, before Justice O.O. Abike-Fadipe on counts including impersonation, attempted fraud, possession of false documents, and unlawful use of EFCC uniforms. They pleaded guilty to the charges, leading to their conviction. Justice Abike-Fadipe sentenced them to seven years each on the first three counts, one year on the fourth count, and eight months on the fifth count, with the sentences to run concurrently.
