Auwalu was apprehended by operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics Team of the Ogere Police Division during a patrol in the area last Wednesday.
According to sources within the police force, Auwalu was found parading himself in military camouflage attire and brandishing an identity card claiming he was a serving naval officer stationed in Port Harcourt.
During interrogation by military personnel, Auwalu confessed to not being a trained officer of the Nigerian Navy.
It was revealed that Auwalu acquired his military uniform and identity card for N10,000 and N5,000 respectively, allegedly from one Umaru residing in Ojodu-Berger Area of Lagos.
Despite attempts to contact the supplier, Auwalu claimed Umaru had passed away. Both the military outfit and identity card were confiscated from Auwalu.
The spokesperson for the Ogun Police Command, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident and stated that discreet investigations were ongoing while the suspect remained in custody.
This incident follows a similar case in Lagos, where a man identified as Femi Balogun was arrested for impersonating a Sergeant in the Armed Forces in the Fagbile Estate, Ijegun-Isheri area. Balogun was apprehended during a patrol in the estate and claimed to be a sergeant in the Armed Forces. He was taken into custody based on a security arrangement with the military guard commander overseeing pipeline security in Ijeododo.
