Falsehood Exposed! Edo Govt Denies Owing Local Government Employees

The Edo State Government has refuted claims that local government workers in the state are being owed salaries due to an alleged crisis within the councils.

In a statement to Naija News on Monday, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Monday Okpebholo, Fred Itua, dismissed the allegations as false, misleading, and a deliberate attempt to misinform the public.

He urged Edo residents to disregard the speculation, attributing it to detractors envious of the achievements of Governor Okpebholo’s administration since taking office in November 2024.

Reaffirming the government’s dedication to workers’ welfare, Itua stressed that no government employee, including local government staff, is owed any salary.

“All payments, including those for January 2025, have been fully disbursed,” he stated.

Despite challenges in allocation payments due to an ongoing legal battle between the state and some embattled local government chairmen, the government emphasized that salaries for local government workers have remained consistent.

“Governor Okpebholo is committed to ensuring that every Edo worker, regardless of their status, is not subjected to unnecessary hardship,” Itua added.

The state government reassured civil servants and the public that it remains resolute in meeting its financial commitments and maintaining workforce stability.
