Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos had declared the reduction of public transport service fares to half their standard rates as a response to President Bola Tinubu’s removal of fuel subsidy.
This fare cut of 50% encompassed the utilization of Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) Standard routes, First and Last Mile, Rail, and Ferry services.
The intention behind this reduction was to alleviate the impact of the fuel subsidy removal under Tinubu’s administration.
However, in a statement released on Saturday, the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) announced that fares for these services would revert to the levels existing before 2 August.
“The 50% fare reduction in the regulated transport system in Lagos ends on Sunday,” stated LAMATA in its announcement.
“Starting Monday, November 6, 2023, transport fares will return to the rates from before 2nd August 2023,” it further explained.
