Fashola Reveals Reasons For Mandating Commissioners To Participate In Social Clubs

Fashola explained, “I mandated my aides and commissioners to become members of social clubs to gain insights and educate the public about government policies during discussions in these venues.” He shared these insights during a lecture at the Eko Club’s 50th anniversary event last Wednesday.

The lecture, titled “The Role of Social Clubs in Social Engineering,” highlighted the importance of shared interests within social clubs. Fashola, a patron of the Eko Club, urged the organization to renew its focus on sports, which he sees as a crucial yet underutilized source of employment, particularly given the high youth unemployment rates.

He emphasized, “Eko Club should revive its sporting objectives and lead the way in youth inter-club competitions. We cannot rely solely on government efforts to achieve success for our athletes in international sports.”

Fashola also called for the Eko Club to engage more deeply in public matters and expand its role beyond hosting events. “Eko Club should not be seen merely as a venue for parties, anniversaries, and weddings,” he said. “It is essential for the club to reconnect with issues that affect our common interests and focus on future development rather than just reflecting on the past 50 years.”
