Mr. Adeoye Irelewuyi, the Anambra FRSC Sector Commander, confirmed the incident on Tuesday, attributing the accident to speeding and a subsequent loss of control.

The mishap involved a commercial driver, Mr. Francis Basil, operating a black Ford E-250 bus with the registration number JJJ842YG belonging to God is Good Logistics. The other vehicle was a Nissan Caravan commercial bus driven by Augustine Orjiwuru, with the registration number TTK518XA.

Eyewitnesses reported that the Ford vehicle was traveling at high speed when one of its front tires dislodged, causing the driver to lose control and collide with the Nissan bus ahead.

The crash involved a total of 11 individuals, comprising seven male adults and four female adults. Tragically, one male adult lost his life, while four male adults and four female adults sustained injuries. Two individuals were successfully rescued without harm.

The FRSC rescue team from the Ihiala Unit Command promptly transported the victims to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Ihiala. Unfortunately, one male adult was pronounced dead, and his body was deposited in the hospital’s mortuary.

The sector commander disclosed that the driver of the Ford vehicle has been handed over to the Police for further investigations.

Expressing condolences to the bereaved family, Irelewuyi wished the injured victims a speedy recovery. He also emphasized the importance of adhering to traffic rules and regulations, urging motorists to prioritize safety on the roads.

“Traffic rules are established to prevent such accidents. We appeal to motorists to drive responsibly, ensuring the safety of their lives and others on the road,” he emphasized.
