On October 8, around 1:12 AM, the Lonoke County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call regarding a missing juvenile. As deputies arrived, they learned that the father, Aaron Spencer, had located his daughter in a vehicle with 67-year-old Michael Fosler.
According to Sheriff John Stanley, a confrontation between Spencer and Fosler led to the shooting. Fosler was pronounced dead at the scene, and Spencer was taken into custody. Initially reported as a First Degree Murder charge, Sheriff Stanley clarified in a subsequent video that the charges against Spencer were still preliminary, emphasizing that it would be up to prosecutors to determine whether to file charges.
“This is a tragic situation,” Stanley stated, expressing condolences to everyone involved. He noted that he could only share limited details at that time.
Heather Spencer, identified as Aaron’s wife, has been vocal on social media, labeling her husband’s arrest as “outrageous.” She alleged that their daughter had been “targeted, groomed, and ultimately raped by the boyfriend of a family friend,” asserting that they had a no-contact order against Fosler and were unaware their daughter was communicating with him.
Sheriff Stanley confirmed that Fosler had been arrested in July for internet stalking of a child and sexual assault, but had been released on bond. He indicated that had law enforcement intervened that night, Fosler would likely have remained in custody.
