Wabara alleged that his efforts to secure jobs for people in his wards were blocked, stating that he learned the refusal was because he did not offer a bribe. “Up until now, nothing has been done because I have not ‘dropped any money,’ and they cannot ask me to do so,” he claimed.

In response, the FCC’s Director of Public Affairs and Communication, Dr. Chuks Okoli, released a statement refuting the allegations. He emphasized that Wabara was informed during a March 2023 visit to FCC Executive Chairman, Dr. Muheeba Dankaka, that the commission does not operate as a recruitment agency.

The FCC reiterated that its primary role is to oversee recruitment processes in Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to ensure fairness and equity, not to directly offer job placements. The commission also challenged Wabara to substantiate his bribery claims, urging the public to disregard what it called baseless accusations.

“For such a serious allegation, it would be helpful if the former Senate President could name the individual(s) who allegedly asked for a bribe to secure FCC job slots for his children or grandchildren,” the statement read. The FCC further stated that Dr. Dankaka has adhered strictly to the Federal Character principles in staff recruitment since assuming office.
