Starting as early as 7 a.m., protesters assembled at the busy Utako market in the Utako district of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), where the demonstration is now in full swing. Damilare Adenola, the Director of Mobilisation for the Take It Back Movement, voiced significant concerns over the country’s economic challenges, attributing them to the Federal Government’s policies.

In response, the Federal Capital Territory Police Command has assured residents of Abuja that the October 1 Independence Day celebrations will proceed smoothly and securely. This assurance was communicated in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, on Monday.

The Police disclosed that they have strategically deployed adequate personnel and equipment across Abuja in preparation for Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day celebration. Adeh confirmed that both operatives and equipment are in place to ensure that FCT residents have a trouble-free Independence Day.

The statement also mentioned the deployment of Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) teams, anti-riot equipment, and enhanced visibility policing among the measures being taken. Additionally, traffic diversions will be implemented in areas expected to attract large crowds, including the Central Area and Eagle Square.

The Police spokesperson urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the FCT Police emergency lines.
