FG Advised: Gumi Warns Military Alone Can’t Stop Bandits, Pushes Negotiation Nigerians React
Controversial Islamic scholar Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has stated that the Nigerian military cannot defeat bandits through force alone, insisting that negotiation is the only viable solution to address insecurity in the North-West.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In an interview with the BBC, Gumi argued that conventional armies worldwide often struggle against guerrilla fighters, a challenge Nigeria is currently facing.
He noted that while ongoing military operations are necessary, they cannot achieve complete victory against bandit groups whose movements are fluid and deeply rooted in local communities.
Citing military sources, Gumi said, “Even the military admits that in addressing civil unrest and criminality, only 25% relies on kinetic action; the rest depends on government, politics, and local communities. The military cannot do everything.”
He further questioned the global success of military campaigns against insurgent groups, adding, “Where have you ever seen the military defeat guerrilla fighters? Nowhere.”
Gumi’s remarks come as President Bola Tinubu has directed security agencies to ensure the swift and safe release of all abducted victims across the country. The President also called for intensified collaboration between security forces and state governors to rescue hostages and curb the rising wave of attacks by terrorists and bandits.
