Bwala expressed his delight over Fubara’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC, noting that the move strengthens the party’s presence in the South-South region.
“With joy in my heart, I join all progressives at home and abroad in welcoming my dear friend and brother, His Excellency Sim Fubara, the Executive Governor of Rivers State, to the All Progressives Congress (APC),” Bwala wrote on his account. “With this move, we can proudly say that the entire South-South is now APC.”
Fubara officially announced his defection on Monday during a stakeholders’ meeting at the Government House in Port Harcourt. The announcement came just hours after a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja.
Explaining his decision, Fubara stated, “We cannot fully support President Tinubu if we do not truly identify with him—not just through backyard support. Our decision tonight is to move to the APC.”
The political shift follows Fubara’s recent reconciliation with his former political godfather and predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who now serves as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
