President Tinubu, represented at the Bauchi State launch by Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Muhammad Ali Pate, highlighted that these new projects will complement the ongoing expansion of cancer care infrastructure in six federal teaching hospitals. He emphasized that the new centers will help reduce medical tourism and will be the largest of their kind in West Africa, with the capacity to train up to 500 clinicians over three years and boost clinical trial and research capabilities.

Tinubu expressed gratitude to the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, the Coordinating Minister of the Economy, and the NSIA for their vision and commitment. He described the programme as a significant step toward achieving national healthcare goals, including saving lives and improving overall health.

The President also noted that the retraining of 120,000 health workers aligns with his role as the African Union Champion for Human Resources for Health. By updating the skills and knowledge of health professionals, the initiative aims to better meet the evolving healthcare needs of the population.

Ali Pate added that the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative (NHSRII) has been instrumental in improving national productivity and ensuring that basic healthcare is recognized as both a fundamental human right and a critical aspect of national security. He highlighted the importance of collaborative frameworks such as the Compact with State Governors and Development Partners, which have advanced health sector goals through effective alignment and accountability.
