FG Returns ₦9.54 Billion To Nasarawa For Usman Dan Fodio Airport In Shocking Takeover Deal

The Nasarawa State Government has confirmed the receipt of ₦9.54 billion from the Federal Government as reimbursement for the transfer of ownership of the Lafia Cargo Airport, now officially named the Usman Dan Fodio Airport.

Governor Abdullahi Sule made the announcement on Monday during a high-level stakeholders’ forum at the Government House in Lafia.

The airport, originally commissioned three years ago by former President Muhammadu Buhari, was taken over by the Federal Government in 2022.

Since then, Governor Sule’s administration has consistently pursued a refund of the funds spent on the airport’s construction.

In attendance at the meeting were traditional rulers and National Assembly members who played key roles in facilitating the Federal Government’s approval for the refund.

Governor Sule expressed gratitude for their efforts and formally disclosed that the long-anticipated reimbursement had finally been received.

Attendees at the forum commended the governor for his transparency and commitment to progress.

The meeting also featured discussions on how to allocate the funds towards key infrastructure projects—particularly rural road construction and other capital developments to boost accessibility and economic growth in underserved areas of the state.
